MyReykjavikInfo.com Reports Huge Second Quarter Traffic Growth
MyReykjavikInfo.com, online travel guide for Reykjavik, has reported large-scale growth in site traffic following volcano eruptions.
REYKJAVIK, ICELAND, July 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- MyReykjavikInfo.com, the leading online travel guide to Reykjavik in Iceland has reported receiving record increases in its online traffic figures, following the news of the volcanic eruptions and subsequent international air traffic disruptions spread, and the world's eyes turned towards Iceland.
Driven primarily by material related to the Iceland volcano on MyReykjavikInfo.com prior to the eruptions as well as links to live webcams of the volcano, traffic to the site grew rapidly in the second quarter, to achieve a 408% increase compared with the first quarter of 2010. Even though the volcano activity has now calmed down, traffic has remained strong with continued increases compared to months prior to the eruptions.
Magnus Haflidason, director of MyReykjavikInfo.com said, "It looks like the volcanic activity, even with all the disruptions to millions of air travellers, will benefit Iceland in the long run. Iceland has not had this much media attention since the economic collapse back in 2008. We feel that people are now realizing that the volcano has not affected the lives of Icelanders as much as one might think and that it's perfectly safe to travel to the land of fire and ice."
MyReykjavikInfo.com has hopes that a recent promotional campaign, Inspired by Iceland, will boost tourist traffic even more in the coming months and perhaps extend the tourist season.
The campaign was launched by the Icelandic Government and is based largely on leveraging social networks. MyReykjavikInfo.com has supported the campaign by posting videos and news from the campaign on its Facebook fan page. The highlight of the campaign was a concert held on July 1st 2010 in downtown Reykjavik which was streamed online to the world. In addition to Icelandic artists such as Dikta, Seabear and GusGus, singer-songwriter and long time admirer of Iceland, Damien Rice, headlined.
